Baylis Thomas, "The Dark Side of Zionism: Israel's Quest for Security Through Dominance"
Lexington Books | 2009-02-15 | ISBN: 0739126903 (http://www.ebookee.net/go/?u=) | 267 pages | PDF | 1,1 MB
The thesis of The Dark Side of Zionism, arising from new histories neglected by the media, is that both the early Zionists and the Israelis sought their security through military domination of the indigenous Arab population of Palestine. This strategy required avoiding negotiations with the Palestinians as well as demonstrating Israeli military might through wars initiated against Arab states opposed to an Israeli takeover of Palestine.
Reviews
Baylis Thomas spells out the Arab-Israeli conflict with simply stunning clarity. A great required read for all. I knew little Middle East history before picking this up. Thomas researches the subject carefully and writes clearly with detailed footnotes. In the particularly enlightening Appendix A - Water Wars, Thomas mentions the rarely recognized Israeli "hydrostrategic territorial imperative", a term used by U Thant (View from the UN. Doubleday, 1978), which seems to drive much of the conflict today.
